Experimental and numerical study of an innovative OMEGA-shaped connector for composite beams

Shear connectors in composite beam are used to ensure proper connection between concrete slab and steel beam. Headed stud shear the types most commonly constructions. Despite its popularity, this type of has presented some drawbacks, notably installation technique which demands many requirements. Recently, several have been developed as an alternative studs. The aim present paper is a study new OMEGA-shaped connector that easy design, fabricate install. geometry proposed allows good confinement provides high flexural stiffness. Experimental push-out tests carried out on OMEGA headed studs their strength, ductility failure mode. A comprehensive comparison two was established, showed greater strength against shearing uplifting. Thus, it can be conventional (headed studs) steel-concrete beams. finite element models (FEM) push test were using Abaqus software conduct parametric various dimensions different strengths evaluate influences capacity mechanism connection. It concluded mode relatively affected by increasing area compressive without significant impact ductility. Based results obtained from study, general equation for predicting introduced.
